    Hello,

I have student who was recently diagnosed with Cortisol Deficiency. The family is requesting that he carry Solu-Cortef for emergencies.  As this is new to me, I was curious if anyone has any experience with a student carrying this emergency medication with the expectation a trained staff/nurse will administer.  Any insight appreciated.

Hi Colleen! Our district has a comprehensive training we do annually on Adrenal Insufficiency with training and delegation for unlicensed personnel. The self-carry piece of this is tricky and most of our student's with Adrenal Insufficiency keep this emergency medication in the school health clinic. This depends on the age and responsibility level of the student of course. It is very individualized to each student. Sarah Blumenthal may be able to provide more guidance for your individual school. I hope that helps!
