    Hello Colorado Rural Nurses:

Your input is needed! Please read the below email from Wendy Niskanen, the Oregon NASN Director and consider completing the survey.

It was so wonderful to read the minutes and see that Colorado School Nurses are participating in the Rural Nurse Work Group.  You are truly valued as a member of CASN/NASN. I look forward to seeing the progress of the work group and encourage all of you to bring your knowledge and success to the CASN Executive Board. We are here for you!

    Thank you,

    Laura

    Greetings Nurses,
I want to report to the group that we had a productive first meeting on 2/28/24. Here is a draft of the meeting summary.
You can help with our next steps!
First, if you have not completed and shared the Rural School Nurse Focus Group survey, please do so as soon as possible. In addition to demographic questions, the survey contains the open-ended questions we considered in our first meeting (see below). You may want to think about them before you complete the survey. It is essential that many school nurses share their insights to ensure our efforts are inclusive, so please forward this email and encourage your rural colleagues to complete it, as well.
    Questions to consider:

What does rural school nursing mean to you?

What is the most important work that we should address?

What are unique challenges to school nursing practice faced by nurses in rural settings?

What are some supports you would like to see for rural school nurse practice?

Do you have a story which exemplifies rural school nursing practice?

What do you wish school nurse leadership hears about rural school nursing practice?

Is there something else you would like to add that we have not asked?

Second, in an effort to understand issues around practicing school nursing in a rural setting, please send and articles/research which you have found helpful to me, and I will include them in a shared folder. Is there data you have found useful/meaningful? Are there stories that are illustrative of this work? Do you have resources which explore possible supports/solutions for the unique challenges for rural school nurses? Please send any articles/research which will inform our discussions.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting on March 27 to (3:00 PDT, 4:00 MDT, 5:00 CDT, 6:00 EDT).

    Wendy
