Hello All,
I can't believe we are already halfway through February!
I wanted to share an update on current happenings in my role as your NASN Director.
The January board meeting in Washington, DC was canceled due to weather. However, all board members met virtually last week in the evening. Coordinating a meeting with over 50 nurses and staff across multiple time zones-including Hawaii, Alaska, the mainland U.S., and even our European Director in Belgium-was no small task. I was fortunate to have a 1600–2200 meeting window, allowing me to participate without loss of work time or sleep. Hill day has been rescheduled for April.
NASN is currently in the process of updating the 2026–2029 Strategic Plan. This has been a six-month collaborative effort focused on strengthening the pillars that support the success of school nursing in an ever-changing environment. The NASN Bylaws are also being updated to ensure alignment with NASN publications and the Fellowship program. Committees are actively being developed and reassigned as part of this work.
NASN position statements, which are updated every five years, have recently been reviewed and approved. The updated statements include:
• Concussion Management and Care in Schools
• Emergency Preparedness for Schools
• Environmental Health
• Restraint and Seclusion Elimination in School Settings
• Safe Work Environments for School Nurses and School Health Service Teams
Elections for NASN's Vice President and the Nominating Committee will take place this spring. Please remember to review the candidates and participate in voting.
Wishing you all a wonderful Valentine's Day!
Namaste,
Laura
