    Dear CASN member,

CASN annually recognizes school nurses who have demonstrated excellence in their practice, whether as a school nurse or school nurse administrator.

The CASN Awards Committee will choose one school nurse for the 2023 School of the Year Award (SNOY) and a School Nurse Administrator (SNAY) for that award. Both award winners' names will be submitted to NASN for consideration for the NASN's Excellence in Nursing celebration at the NASN Annual Conference in Chicago June 28-July 1, 2024.

We will accept nominations from September 25 through October 16, 2023, and honor all the nominees and winners of the SNOY and SNAY at our Awards Banquet during our Fall Conference on November 4 at the Embassy Suites in Loveland.

    Information about 2023 CASN Awards

    Nominee(s) must be:

    • A registered professional nurse
    • Bachelor's degree in nursing or higher
    • A current member of NASN

Nominee may NOT be a current member of the CASN Executive or Full Board.

Many of you have written a letter of recommendation. If you have not, this month's NASN School Nurse has an excellent article written by Catherine Falusi YonkaitisDNP, RN, NCSN, PHNA-BC, and Martha Dewey BergrenPhD, RN, NCSN, PHNA-BC, FNASN, FASHA, FAAN called "Letters of Recommendation: Make Your Nominee Stand Out." They suggest these steps:   First, determine if you will write the recommendation, establish the due date, gather the award/position criteria, interview the nominee, identify the submission process, check length restrictions or special requirements, use keywords from the criteria, start with the outline- then work to complete letter early, review after a few days and save the final letter as a pdf.

CASN will also honor a School Nurse Advocate and Legislator, dependent on the nominations received-details and all nomination forms to follow.
